The Kyoto University Africa Office was approved in April 2019 as an overseas office jointly operated by the Center for African Area Studies and the Interdisciplinary Unit for African Studies.  With support from International Strategy Office and Research Administration Office, the Africa Office will organically connect research, education and social service activities of the departments that have been active in Africa, and further expand cooperative relationships with universities, research institutions and international organizations in the region. The Africa Office will also aim to promote activities that contribute to the development of Africa’s potential.

The Kyoto University Africa Office is located at the Institute of Ethiopian Studies, Addis Ababa University, in the capital of Ethiopia. Addis Ababa has a hub function as the gateway to Africa and has many international organizations such as African Union (AU).
