Prof. Musumari, Center for Interdisciplinary Education and Research, visited Benin University in Nigeria from 6 to 11 May, 2019

Dr. Patou Musumari, an associate professor at Center for Interdisciplinary Education and Research, visited Benin University in Nigeria from 6 to 11 May, 2019. The visit was arranged by the Center for Excellence in Reproductive Health Innovation (CERHI), which World Bank accredited the African Center of Excellence (ACE) under the Higher Education Support Program.

Prof. Musmari, who specializes in social epidemiology, discussed with a representative of CERHI on academic cooperation in the future. CERHI  is hoping to offer its students and faculty an opportunity to visit Kyoto University and receive training of social epidemiology in cooperation with the Interdisciplinary Unit for Global Health.

During the visit, Prof. Musumari gave two lectures on social epidemiology to graduate students and faculty staff at CERHI. In the lecture, he discussed research methods of social epidemiology while introducing mathematical models of infectious diseases. The students highly valued the applicability of social epidemiology to the local context of Nigeria.

In addition, Prof. Musumari has also offered individual consultations with  graduate students at CERHI. He discussed with 12 graduate students in total, who work on a range of research topics, including abortion prevention and access to reproductive health services.

In the future, in order to strengthen collaboration on an organizational level, Kyoto University will continue to discuss the possibility to conclude an academic exchange agreement between the two universities.
